Overview
Vintage Wings of Canada
On the Wings of History go the Leaders of Tomorrow
Vintage Wings of Canada is a public charitable organization committed to inspiring young Canadians – through the use of vintage aircraft as unique teaching tools – to become outstanding citizens and leaders in their communities. We do this by:
1) Promoting the values of service to community, discipline and hard work that exemplified by the generation of young men and women who served Canada during the Second World War and the Cold War, through presentations by accomplished Canadians such as astronaut and Vintage Wings Board Member Chris Hadfield;
2) Promoting the benefits of an education in math and sciences, and a career in engineering and aerospace technology through compelling aviator presentations to young people in communities across Canada;
3) Telling powerful stories about the heroes, aircraft and events making up Canada’s rich aviation heritage, in person, through the Web and in the media.
Founded in 2003, Vintage Wings of Canada is based in the National Capital Region in Gatineau, Québec. Every year, Vintage Wings’ qualified volunteer pilots fly its collection of 15 beautifully-restored aircraft from the Second World War and the Cold War to thousands of Canadians at events and air shows across our country, including the Vintage Wings’ signature event “Wings Over Gatineau-Ottawa” and the Yellow Wings Youth Leadership Initiative.
Vintage Wings of Canada is operated by 15 employees and contractors, and supported by 200 key volunteers (this number doubles during Vintage Wings’ fall air show). The team includes some of Canada’s top vintage aircraft specialists, including mechanics, engineers and pilots.
