Finch Run-up

So we skipped a few steps, but we got a good run-up.  We are still waiting for our upper wing that contains the fuel tan to come back from repair.  The wing should be at Vintage Wings this week.  Then we will get the airplane ready, get it on the truck and west it will go.The Finch will meet up with his buddies from the Yellow Wings Tour already on their journey throughout western Canada.

Looking more and more like a RCAF trainer

Between yesterday, when the wings were mounted and today, when the RCAF markings were stuck on, the Fleet Cornell is beginning to resemble the likes of a real aircraft – one that once fly in an RCAF squadron during the height of the BCATP era. Marked as #10712, our Cornell actually bore the same tail number when it was based in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Cornell with her new wings, mounted on just recently (29 April). Another check mark in the restoration process complete!

Close to the end of the line, a Cornell update

The center section is attached to the fuselage and is safetied. Torque tube and elevator are now attached. The vertical stabilizer and rudder are now off the shelf on in the A/C. we got parking brake linkage and rudder pedal linkage figured out. Canopy seal are going back on.

Cornell is holding its own weight

The center section is finally installed onto the fuselage. It was a nerve racking but exciting event.

The first landing was uneventful and perfect.

The final product of yesterday's work.

Hard Workers

For the past seven months we have had a lot of help from volunteers and vintage wings staff.

Berny and Greg fitting the fuselage sock.

Eden is just being silly here, but this guy is not fun and games all the time, he works very hard.

The making of Cornell seats

For the past couple days we have been steaming wood parts for our new Cornell seats.  With a propane burner, boiling water, a spray bottle and a lot of patients we got the pieces to there perfect shape.  To get the perfect shape, we built a wooden frame with the exact shape of the existing seats we had.

We had just started the process of steaming the back of our Cornell seat.

A decorated Finch

We have used the same markings the aicraft flew with back in the second world war.

Dave O'Malley and Blake McPhail (aircraft maintenance student from algonquin college) have been working hard this morning decorating our Fleet Finch.

We can't forget our yellow wings logo, all of our Yellow Wings teamates will get this decal on the side of the fuselage.
